What does your first visit involve?

Welcome
When you arrive for your first appointment, we warmly greet you and show you our facilities and comfortable waiting area. We may also ask you to fill in some new patient forms if you haven’t already done so.

Consultation
At the time of your appointment, your dentist welcomes you and shows you into the surgery. Your consultation begins with an informal chat, as we get to know you and your oral health. We ask you about your past medical and dental history, and listen to any concerns you may have about your teeth or gums.

Examination
The main part of your appointment is a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums. We check all areas of your mouth, looking for any signs of gum disease or decay. We also check for any early symptoms of mouth cancer. If necessary, we take pain-free digital x-rays for a detailed view under your gums.

Treatment plan
We share our findings from your examination with you, and explain any further treatment needed. If necessary, we devise your bespoke treatment plan, outlining the procedures involved and expected costs. We also give you the chance to ask us any questions.

Frequently asked questions

Do you treat children at your dental practice?

We are always happy to treat the children of our registered patients, so once you have joined us, please do bring your children. The best way to ensure beautiful and healthy teeth for life is to start dental education and regular check-ups at an early age. We are passionate about age-appropriate preventive care, and make sure our young patients feel comfortable with visiting the dentist. We also teach excellent tooth brushing tips to ensure that good dental health becomes second nature.

Can I see the same dentist every time I visit?

Most of our patients see the same dentist every time they visit for their routine care. We love getting to know our patients, and understand the strong benefits and comforting familiarity of having the same dentist treat you. If you have a preference for your dentist when booking an appointment, please let us know.

How do I pay for my dental treatment?

You can pay for your dental treatment at our practice with cash or most major credit or debit cards. In most cases, we ask that you pay for your treatment at the end of each appointment. We also offer monthly payment plans through Practice Plan to enable you to spread the cost of your dental care, subject to suitability.

A comprehensive new patient appointment at The Dental and Implant Clinic Southbourne is just £65.00, and includes necessary X-rays.
